When someone contacts me about a senior portrait shoot, I always ask if the senior has any interests, hobbies, etc. that they would like to incorporate into their photos. This usually gives me an opportunity to do something a little more exciting than your typical portrait and gives the senior a more personal touch to his or her images. I've photographed basketball and football players, cheerleaders, snowborders - some of my favorite images in my portfolio. So I was excited when Daniel, a talented musician, told me he wanted some photos of himself performing. I knew that by controlling the light, there was the potential for some really cool dramatic images. As one of my favorite photographers often says, "If you want something to look interesting, don't light all of it."
